What Is Executive Function?

Executive function (EF) is your brain’s management system. It’s the set of mental skills that help you:

  • Plan and prioritize

  • Start tasks (even the boring ones)

  • Manage time and deadlines

  • Stay organized

  • Focus without getting overwhelmed

  • Adapt to change

  • Regulate stress and emotions

When these skills lag, university, work, and daily life feel harder than they should, no matter how smart or capable you are.

What an Executive Function Coach Does

An Executive Function (EF) coach helps you build the skills behind productivity and independence, such as:

  • Managing time & workload

  • Organizing materials, email, and digital files

  • Following through on commitments

  • Reducing procrastination

  • Studying strategically

  • Balancing academics, work, and personal life

  • Building routines that support success

  • Strengthening emotional regulation during stressful moments

EF coaching is not tutoring. It focuses on how you learn, how you work, and how you manage your life, so you can stay in control; not overwhelmed.

How Coaching Works

Coaching is weekly, 1:1 support tailored to your goals: academic, personal, or professional. In EF Coaching, we:

Start with your goals

You decide what we focus on, such as planning your week, managing assignments, organizing tasks, building routines, preparing for exams, or navigating work expectations.

Use personalized strategies

Tools and systems are matched to your unique brain, lifestyle, and strengths.

Work side-by-side

We break tasks down, problem-solve together, practice new strategies, and build realistic systems that actually stick.

Build accountability into every session

You leave with 1–2 clear next steps. We track progress weekly and make adjustments, as needed.

Stay connected between sessions

Light check-ins help keep you on track, especially during busy or stressful weeks.

Coaching is supportive, collaborative, and completely judgment-free.

When EF Coaching Can Help

You might benefit from an EF coach if you:

  • Feel overwhelmed by deadlines or responsibilities

  • Struggle to balance school, work, and personal life

  • Lose assignments, emails, or important information

  • Procrastinate or avoid work until the last minute

  • Feel anxious, stuck, or unsure how to move forward

  • Are transitioning to university, a new program, or the workplace

  • Want more confidence and independence

EF coaching is especially supportive for young adults who are autistic, have ADHD or dyslexia, or are experiencing anxiety, perfectionism or chronic stress. But it’s also helpful for anyone who wants to get organized and take control of their life.

The goal of EF coaching is independence.

Over time, you will:

  • Apply strategies that help you stay organized and focused

  • Build routines that keep you on track

  • Manage your time and responsibilities

  • Communicate and advocate effectively

  • Feel more confident and capable in school, work, and life

Sessions gradually phase out as your skills and independence grow.
